Protecting Brush-tailed Phascogales in the Mt Alexander region
In 2023, Harcourt Valley Landcare was awarded a Landcare Victoria grant to shine the light on a furry resident with whom we share our beautiful valley: the Brush-tailed Phascogale. Populations of this tiny, feisty creature have dramatically declined in other areas of Victoria, but the Mt Alexander region is one of the few remaining strongholds. This is a community engagement project to inform and engage the residents of Harcourt to brighten the future of this threatened marsupial ahead of a time of significant growth for the town, as outlined in the planning scheme amendment, Plan Harcourt. The project will include publications, social media and events to increase awareness of how our actions as a community can impact the Brush-tailed Phascogale and our many native species.
